The past twenty years have been anything but status quo for Jeremy Tabor and his team.  As President and CEO of Tabor Construction & Development, Jeremy has formalized his world of land development and general contracting with an analytical financial background, creative energy, desire to do things better and a team that shares his vision and excitement.  Consistency is key for Tabor’s success as they celebrate their latest awards, together as a team.

In the past twenty years, the team at Tabor Construction & Development has earned twenty-four awards for construction and development projects throughout Northeast Mississippi.  Just this March, the Homebuilders Association of Mississippi recognized Tabor as the Best in Mississippi in two separate categories: Multifamily New Construction for Grand Junction Condominiums and Historical Preservation for The Hill and Moor.  Both projects are located in Tabor’s home base of Starkville, Mississippi.

According to Tabor, “These projects represent not only the ‘Best in Mississippi’ in these categories, but the best of our work, in so many different aspects.”   Tabor is no stranger to the Multi Family category, as it has won 11 Multi Family awards, including this most recent recognition.  Multi Family offers the opportunity to deliver multiple condominiums at one time, including both speculative and custom work.  Grand Junction Condominiums are utilized as primary residences, second homes and investment properties.  The Hill and Moor allowed Tabor to collaborate with the Owners, who were true visionaries, and a very talented design team to complete the rehabilitation and renovation of the former Moor High School.  The newly branded Hill and Moor is a well crafted event space featuring both indoor and outdoor spaces and an on-site boutique hotel.

The commonality and success of these two projects lies within the consistency of the team.  In 1999, Jeremy Tabor left commercial banking and joined his father in the family business.  At the time, the company’s success had been focused on speculative student driven housing.  Bringing his finance background and entrepreneurial spirit to the table, Tabor sought to expand the company’s offerings into the luxury, second home market.  He cut his teeth on projects such as Calton Hill and Esplanade Ridge in Oxford and Academy Place and Annabella in Starkville.

With Mississippi State just down the street, two student workers, Will Wade and Carley Montgomery, both MSU graduates, joined the ranks in the early 2000’s.  Both are now valuable company executives.  Will has officially held every field position in the company over the years and now oversees the entire construction team as the Chief Operating Officer. Will is responsible for all estimating, oversight of all construction projects, and is the key liaison between the office and field. “Will’s versatility is incredible,” said Jeremy Tabor.  “He gets along with everyone and can trouble shoot and problem solve better than anyone I know.   He commands respect from all around him and allows his knowledge and experience to shine through in the most unassuming way.  He is critical for our team’s success.”

Carley Mongtomery originally joined Tabor as an assistant property manager.  Over the years, her role has evolved as she has continuously assumed more responsibility and learned the construction business from the ground up.  “Her mind for numbers is invaluable to our business.  She has raised the bar for efficiency, set expectations very high and contributes so much to every aspect of the business,” Tabor said.  Carley spent several years as company Controller, finetuning systems and processes and increasing efficiency company wide.  Now in her 18th year with the company, Carley Carley is Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for all accounting, human resources and executive financial functions.  Carley shines in the details, ensuring compliance, consistency and cohesiveness.

In 2003 while the Tabor’s were developing condominiums in Oxford, Jeremy, and his father Larry, were introduced to Kay Regimbal, a paralegal for the real estate law firm handling all of Tabor’s closings.  “Kay grasped our business quickly and soon became a valuable member of our team.”  When she and her family relocated to the Golden Triangle in 2007, Tabor offered her a position, crafted for her skillset and the aspects of the business she wanted to learn.  While risk analysis, due diligence and client relations are a large part of her responsibility as Vice President of Development, she has really enjoyed the design and development aspects as well.  “Kay is a mix of right and left brain, can be talking about paint colors and contracts in the same sentence, and really has inspired our business with her growth mindset.”

Ozzy Oroxom started as an hourly worker in 2005 during the peak of Esplanade Ridge in Oxford.  It didn’t take long for Tabor to see this man was something special.  A man of great faith and integrity, Ozzy’s desire to better himself was infectious to whoever was lucky enough to work with him.  With an open mind and an unmatched work ethic, Ozzy has developed into the complete package as a utility ace in the hole employee for this construction company.  His versatility expands from equipment operation to finish carpentry.  He is a true leader in the field, excelling in trouble shooting on site, which has been a blessing for Tabor.  “We would not be where we are without his conviction, attention to detail, and overwhelmingly positive spirit,” acknowledges Tabor.

The Tabor team would not be complete without the long standing relationships with subcontractors, material suppliers, architects, engineers, attorneys and lenders.  Tabor believes that the success of the company does not lie solely in construction, but with the relationships.  “Experience with each other matters.  We know how each other work. Expectations and communication are clear and consistent.  There is a mutual respect and an enjoyment of working together to accomplish a goal.”
